Implant Dental Treatment

What is Implant Dental Treatment?

It is the process of replacing the tooth lost for any reason at a certain period of life with the help of an implant placed in the bone. The advantage of this technique is that the tooth deficiency is eliminated without any treatment (without damaging) the teeth next to the lost tooth.

Although the fact that an object is placed into the bone may seem like a difficult and frightening procedure, thanks to the modern implantology techniques applied in our clinic today, the implant placement process is completely painless.

In the past, the only alternative to this treatment was to build a bridge over the adjacent teeth. When the bridge was being built, the structure of the teeth was weakened due to the abrasion process performed on the adjacent teeth, so two teeth were damaged while trying to repair one tooth. At the same time, since the chewing force, which should have come on three teeth, came on two teeth, the teeth under the bridge were loaded with a force above their function. However, in implant treatment, while the missing tooth is replaced, such damage is not caused to the adjacent teeth.

Who is Implant Teeth Suitable for?

It is very important to evaluate the general health status of the person who will receive implant teeth. Unless there is a systemic health problem, the age of the person to be implanted is irrelevant. For example, it is more difficult to implant a 40-year-old person with irregular diabetes than a 70-year-old person with no disease, and the chances of implant success in the advanced period are lower.

In our clinic, we first examine the systemic health status of the patients we plan to implant. As per our rules, we do not implant patients with irregular diabetes, individuals who have previously used chemotherapy drugs that stimulate bone destruction, and patients who smoke excessively.

We first consult our patients with systemic diseases with their attending physicians. We regulate their medications and regulate their diseases. We perform the implant application after the patient uses the medications recommended by their physicians for implant surgery and our pre-procedure medications.

What are the Benefits of Implant Teeth?

In our patients with implant dental treatment, the possibility of joint discomfort is reduced because they can apply chewing forces bilaterally and with equal pressure. Since they can chew food more effectively, the likelihood of gastrointestinal problems decreases. If we evaluate it in terms of our general health, being able to chew effectively strengthens our immune system.

In terms of general usage time, in patients who take good oral care, the lifespan is much longer than other treatment techniques.

What are the Important Details in Choosing a Clinic for Implant Dentistry?

It is very important for patients who have decided to have an implant dental application to prefer a dental clinic that has an Oral, Dental and Maxillofacial Surgeon, pays close attention to the sterilization process and has long-term experience in this field.

It should be taken into consideration that the center where implant teeth will be made will also perform implant maintenance in the following years.

What is our treatment process for patients who come to our clinic for implant dentistry?

Patients who come to our clinic to have implants due to tooth deficiency are first examined for systemic diseases.
The amount and density of bone in the area to be implanted is evaluated tomographically.
Medications are started to be used 2 days before the surgical operation.
After the procedure is completed, the patient is informed about how to care for the area where the implant tooth is applied.
Sutures are removed after one week.
After the implant ossification process, the implant tooth is placed.
General oral screening and implant tooth follow-up of our patients are performed every 6 months.

Is Implant Tooth Construction Painful?

Contrary to popular belief, implant tooth construction is a completely painless procedure. Thanks to the anesthesia techniques used in our clinic, our patients do not experience any pain during the operation. With the use of the medications we apply after the operation and prescribed to our patient, recovery after the procedure is also observed without any problems.

How Long Does Implant Tooth Construction Take?

Implant tooth construction may vary depending on the surgical technique applied and the amount and density of bone in the area where the implant tooth is applied.

Thanks to the modern implantology techniques applied in our clinic, implant application can be performed as soon as the tooth is extracted. In fact, if the bone structure is strong enough to support the implant tooth sufficiently, the tooth can be applied on the next day.

If the bone structure is thin, bone powder application is primarily preferred. In cases where bone powder will be insufficient, we apply bone grafts that we receive autogenously from our patients by combining them with bone powder. In such cases, implant tooth application takes between 3-6 months.

What is Sinus Lift Application?

It is the process of applying bone powder into the sinuses if the bone length is not sufficient during implant tooth construction in the posterior regions of the upper jaw. Sinus lift application takes about 20 minutes, including preparation of the area and adding bone powder before dental implant application. Thanks to this technique, longer and stronger implants can be applied to the posterior region of the upper jaw.

What are the things to consider after dental implants are made?

After the implant operation, there are many things you should pay attention to/do/not do during the healing process;

  1. Gently bite on the sterile tampon your doctor placed in your mouth after the implant procedure for an hour. Then take it out and throw it away. Do not substitute anything (napkin/cotton/sterile gauze, etc.).
  2. If you feel thirsty or hungry after removing the tampon, you can drink water/fruit juice. IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not drink drinks using a straw, the sucking action can increase bleeding!
  3. As soon as you throw away the tampon, drink one of the painkillers prescribed/recommended by your doctor! If your doctor has not recommended medication, take one of the painkillers available at home! IMPORTANT NOTE: NEVER use ASPRIN/CORASPRIN and its varieties as painkillers!
  4. After the implant operation, do not eat or chew until the numbness due to anesthesia subsides! If you chew while you are drowsy, you may injure tissues such as lips/tongue etc.
  5. After the implant operation, after the numbness due to anesthesia subsides, you can eat on the side that is not injured! Do not consume hard/bitter/spicy foods (which may damage the wound)!
  6. It is very normal to have a taste of blood in your mouth for 2 (two) days following the implant operation and to have blood leaking from the operated area. To prevent bleeding from getting worse, do not spit or suck the area on the day of the operation!
  7. Consume warm or cold food/drinks for 2 (two) days following the implant operation. NEVER consume HOT food/drinks as they may cause bleeding!
  8. Do not consume milk and dairy products for 2 (two) days following the implant operation!
  9. Do not consume alcohol or cigarettes for 7 (seven) days following the implant operation!
  10. On the evening of the implant operation, you can gently brush your teeth except the treated area!
  11. It is completely normal to have the taste and appearance of blood in the mouth after dental implant surgery, to have swelling and bruising on your face, and to have bleeding in the nose after sinus elevation operations. DO NOT WORRY…
  12. In order to reduce swelling and related bruising, apply ice wrapped in a napkin for 10 minutes and remove it for 10 minutes, without pressing/massaging the outside of your face for 48 hours following the implant operation!
  13. Keeping the implant area clean after the implant operation is the most important factor that accelerates implant healing. For this purpose, we recommend gargling with salty and carbonated water 15 times a day, starting the process the next day. Prepare this mouthwash by adding 1 tablespoon of salt and 1 tablespoon of baking soda to 1 L of water! Patients with blood pressure diseases should prepare this mouthwash with only baking soda!
  14. Sleep slightly upright for 2 (two) nights after the implant operation! Never lie on the swollen area.
Do not forget to use the medications prescribed by your doctor as prescribed and attend your follow-up appointments!

Is it possible for the body not to accept a dental implant?

In patients receiving dental implants, systemic health problems following implant placement and therefore disruption of bone metabolism increases the likelihood of failure.

Excessive smoking after the operation and failure to care for the operation area (gargle) as recommended by your doctor are other situations that increase the possibility of failure.

What is Nutrition After Dental Implant Operation?

Consuming cold foods and drinks is recommended for the first day after the operation as it will reduce the possibility of bleeding.

Since the implant may enter the wound area after the dental operation, it is recommended not to consume grainy foods for 7 days.

It is recommended not to consume milk and dairy products for 2 days following the operation.

It should not be forgotten that the implant operation is a bone surgery procedure. Therefore, consuming dishes containing bones and broth, which stimulate bone healing in the body, accelerates bone healing.

It is recommended to take vitamins and minerals, which play an important role in bone metabolism, as supplements.
